The hand and forearm Sculpt@Home Course

Create a beautiful anatomic sculpture in your own time at home

“As a medical student and later as a surgical registrar, I found myself frustrated trying to understand practical anatomy from textbooks and drawings. Learning a 3D structure from 2D images just didn’t allow me to learn what I needed. That all changed when I started sculpting. It has completely altered my confidence in theatre and in clinical practice.” Tom Pidgeon, Course Lead

Learn in-depth hand and forearm anatomy (up to FRCS level) using sculpture
Use sculpture tools and wax to build a hand and forearm in intricate detail
Course designed by senior plastic surgeons

Follow detailed guidance to build your sculpture step by step at home
Learn anatomy of the human hand and forearm using detailed anatomic sculpture. Purchase the equipment to complete your sculpture at home in your own time, supported by detailed written guidance.
Why purchase the option of completing an anatomic sculpture at home?
This course is unique and evidence based. Anatomy knowledge and confidence in clinical practice improves after our courses (Pidgeon, 2021). Now you can complete a sculpture at home, in your own time, using detailed online guidance. Feedback from prior delegates has been resoundingly positive (see Testimonials). At completion, you will have a beautiful sculpture you can keep as a permanent learning aid on its display mount. We really do feel there is no better way to learn clinically relevant anatomy.

What anatomy can I expect to learn?
Whilst building your sculpture, you will sculpt all the key structures of the hand and forearm to an extremely high level of detail.
Example structures you will assemble include:
The deep branch of the ulnar nerve
The arrangement of deep and superficial palmar arches in the hand
The muscles, nerves and vessels of the forearm
The intrinsics and extensor mechanism of the hand
.... and much, much more.
Here are some examples of the sculptures our delegates have created.

Who is it for?
This course is suitable for SHOs, registrars and fellowship candidates (medical students and consultants have also taken part). The reason the course suits some many levels of knowledge is that we've found that it enables delegates to build on what they already know. There is always more anatomy to learn, and we aim for you to attain that level of knowledge. No prior sculpting experience is needed, wish is a surprise to many, but you will still use your manual dexterity skills and the sculptures you see photos of here have been made by previous delegates.

Can I attend in person instead?
For those who prefer, the option exists to attend our in person course, or our discounted remote course. The in person course you will receive in person sculpting guidance, and for the remote course you will receive the same live guidance and lectures, but via videolink.

Can I receive the Sculpt@Home kit abroad?
Presently we are only able to send kits to the UK, but intend to be able to send them overseas soon!
